Darren Sproles is going to play at least one more season in the NFL after inking a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, and he expects to play with the same effectiveness and strength that he had prior to suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3 of the 2017 season.
He’s [Sproles] going to play this season, and Sproles said his recovery from the knee injury is going very well. If there is any doubt in your mind about what’s ahead for Sproles and what kind of player he’s going to be this season, well, relax just a bit.
Sproles says he’s going to be the same way he’s always been.
“I’m going to be Darren Sproles,” he said.
Sproles appeared in just three games in 2017, as he tore his ACL and broke his arm during Week 3’s 27-24 win at home against the New York Giants in which he rushed for only 11 yards on three attempts.
At 34-years-old and coming off a devastating injury, Sproles is unlikely to carve out a big role in the Eagles’ backfield. That said, he’s not going to be an irrelevant insurance option for the Eagles either, especially with last year’s top team rusher LeGarrette Blount signing with the Detroit Lions this offseason.
Sproles re-joins the Eagles’ backfield cast that also features Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement, and Wendell Smallwood.
Darren Sproles is known for his versatility on the field, as he’s also been regularly involved in passing plays. So far in his career, Sproles has 3,366 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns to go with 4,656 receiving yards and 30 touchdown receptions.
