The Baltimore Ravens are still determining whether or not to sign Colin Kaepernick, general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement Wednesday.
ESPN reportedly earlier on Wednesday that Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome were open to signing Kaepernick, but the team’s owner, Steve Bisciotti, had reportedly blocked the move.
Dianna Russini of ESPN provided the update to the situation as Baltimore considers adding another veteran QB with starter Joe Flacco nursing a back injury.
Newsome denied the report in a statement:
“We are going through a process, and we have not made a decision. Steve Bisciotti has not told us we cannot sign Colin Kaepernick, nor has he blocked the move. Whoever is making those claims is wrong.”
The Ravens have discussed signing Kaepernick with current players, former linebacker Ray Lewis, fans and sponsors, team officials told Hensley.
Baltimore recently signed backup QB David Olson after Joe Flacco suffered a back injury that will cause him to miss Week 1 of the season. Ryan Mallett has been taking the first-team repetitions during training camp, but the former New England Patriots signal-caller has struggled with turnovers.
Kaepernick, of course, made waves last season when he refused to stand for the national anthem and has been a free agent since March 1.
