Multiple media members are reporting Eagles left tackle Jason Peters did NOT suffer a season-ending ACL injury in Philadelphia’s victory over the Washington Redskins on Monday night. Instead, it sounds like Peters may have “only” suffered an MCL tear.
The bad news is that Peters will likely miss time if he has an MCL injury. The good news is he might not be out for the season as originally feared.
As Adam Caplan notes, Peters might be ready to return in time for the playoffs depending on the severity of the MCL tear. Unlike an ACL injury, Peters could avoid surgery and instead go through rehab.
We’ll have more information on Peters’ status once he undergoes an MRI on Tuesday morning.
A 166-game starter across 14 NFL seasons, Peters had been playing at a high level through six and a half games, keying one of the league’s most effective offensive lines.
Peters’ value to a Super Bowl contender cannot be overstated. After struggling as a stand-in for right tackle Lane Johnson in extended action last season, Halapoulivaati Vaitai will now be charged with protecting the blind side of emerging MVP candidate Carson Wentz.
In addition to Peters, linebacker Jordan Hicks suffered an ankle injury in the first half and didn’t return. He was seen by multiple reporters in the locker room on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the game.
