The Miami Dolphins agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with quarterback Jay Cutler on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
The deal also includes incentives that could push Cutler’s income to $13 million.
In May, Cutler announced he was making a “permanent” move to broadcasting after he failed to find a new home after nearly two months on the free-agent market. The former Chicago Bears quarterback was slated to make his debut for Fox Sports alongside Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis for the Titans-Bears preseason contest on Aug. 27.
Cutler was sought by the Dolphins after starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill sustained a serious injury to his left knee on Thursday. The Dolphins’ decision to sign Cutler reunites the former Bears quarterback with Gase, who was instrumental in helping the quarterback post his most efficient season in 2015 when he was Chicago’s offensive coordinator.
Miami still hasn’t put a timeline on when Tannehill might return from his knee injury or if he will undergo surgery.
