Cincinnati Bengals safety Shawn Williams had to be carted off against the Kansas City Chiefs during Saturday’s preseason game with what is being reported as a dislocated elbow.
The injury occurred during the first quarter against the Chiefs as Williams was trying to tackle running back Kareem Hunt.
Geoff Hobson of the Bengals’ official website reported the diagnosis, noting Williams is set to be out four to six weeks.
With Williams out, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis will likely turn to third-year safety Derron Smith as his starter. The team also has rookies Brandon Wilson and Cedric Thompson fighting for a roster spot who can see their role expanded.
Other injury news on Sunday:
1. Patriots linebacker Elandon Roberts, carted off on Saturday, suffered an injury to his ribs.
2. Bills wide receiver Jordan Matthews is “extremely confident” he’ll be ready for Week 1. Matthews suffered a chip fracture in his sternum last week.
3. Titans coach Mike Mularkey said Sunday that rookie receiver Corey Davis (hamstring) is on track to play in the team’s fourth preseason game, while fellow wideout Eric Decker (hip, shoulder) has a chance to play in this upcoming week’s contest against the Bears.
