Jaguars’ Dante Fowler Jr. arrested on charges of simple battery, mischief

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. was arrested in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Tuesday night on charges of simple battery and mischief, according to police records.

Fowler was seen “punching” a man after a “brief verbal confrontation.” The 22-year-old Fowler then stepped on the man’s glasses, “breaking a lens,” according to the report. Police stated the man did not claim injury in the incident.

Fowler was arrested by St. Petersburg Police at 9:02 p.m. Tuesday, and was released at 1:43 a.m. from custody Wednesday morning on a $650 bond.

The arrest comes one week before Fowler and his teammates are scheduled to report for training camp. Fowler is subject to potential league discipline under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The 22-year-old Fowler was selected in the first round by Tampa Bay in 2015 and missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury.

Fowler, who was the third overall selection in the 2015 NFL draft, had 32 tackles and four sacks for the Jaguars last season.The Jaguars are scheduled to report to training camp next week.
