The Green Bay Packers were able to pull off an early candidate for comeback of the year over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night at Lambeau Field, further proving he has no limits.
The Packers entered the fourth quarter down 20-3, and were able to tie the game after Aaron Rodgers pass to Randall Cobb.
Rodgers had briefly left the game, after being hit on a third-down play early in the second quarter. DeShone Kizer would come in for the Packers, and completed 4 of 7 passes for 55 yards. He also fumbled, thanks to Khalil Mack and surrendered a pick-six, also thanks to Mack.
Thankfully for the Packers, Rodgers made a return, wearing a knee brace in the second half that limited his ability to move a little, though certainly not his arm.
In the first half, he was just 3 of 7 for 13 yards. Once he came back in the game after halftime, he was 17 of 23 for 273 yards and three touchdowns (all of which came in the fourth quarter).
He was able to piece together scores to get the Packers back into the football game.
After the Packers got a field goal in the third quarter, Rodgers hit Geronimo Allison for a 39-yard touchdown to make it a 20-10 game
Later, Rodgers was able to find Davante Adams to make it a 20-17 game, and the heat was back on the Bears.
Ultimately, that got us to the go-ahead score that Rodgers delivered to Randall Cobb. It’s not surprising because it’s Aaron Rodgers. We’ve seen him deliver amazing pass after amazing pass. After all, he is the Hail Mary God.
But after his knee injury, and to come back on one of the biggest regular season stages, it’s still remarkable. Rodgers has shown that there are truly no limits with him, and even at 34 years old, he has shown no signs of slowing down.
Chicago also got a little too cute at the end
The Bears settled for a field goal right before the Packers’ game-winning drive — and it sure seemed like they didn’t have to. After bleeding the clock for more than six minutes thanks to the running back combo of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen, the Bears faced a third-and-2 from the Green Bay 14. Rather than run it once — or even twice — Trubisky overshot Anthony Miller.
Everyone knew a field goal wouldn’t be enough against Rodgers. The Bears did it anyway.
Then after Rodgers connected with Cobb, the Bears gained just 21 yards on eight plays before Trubisky’s fumble ended their comeback attempt.
Chicago took two deep shots to Allen Robinson and a deep shot to 5’8 Taylor Gabriel on fourth down that was bailed out by a roughing the passer penalty. Chicago got a little desperate with their play-calling and a few rough throws from Trubisky iced their drive before they could really get going. How Chicago responds with their two minute-drills throughout the season will be something to keep an eye on.
The Bears showed promise on Sunday night. Khalil Mack showed that he was worth the trade that the Bears made with the Raiders, which is great for them.
But Aaron Rodgers did what he does. That’s why he’s the NFL’s highest-paid player.
