Redskins TE Jordan Reed sees specialist for toe injury

Jordan Reed’s time on the physically unable to perform list was expected to be a short one. Redskins coach Jay Gruden, though, announced Tuesday the tight end’s injury might be a little more serious than initially believed.

Jordan Reed has left Washington Redskins training camp to see a specialist about his toe injury. Coach Jay Gruden says Reed traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, to see Dr. Robert Anderson on Tuesday. It was a planned visit.

The news might be alarming for Redskins fans, as Gruden suggested no timetable for Reed’s return. Visiting a specialist does not necessarily mean an injury is serious, especially as the visit was scheduled.

There is no indication Reed’s toe injury will hold him out during the regular season, but the fact he’s seeking another opinion suggests the Redskins don’t know how long it will hold him out.

The 27-year-old has been on the field during afternoon workouts, playing catch or practicing his footwork. Gruden said the team is not going to rush Reed’s recovery.
